Chemical Peels Before & After Care

Chemical peels can be great for rejuvenating your skin, but they do require some careful attention both before and after the treatment. Here's a general guide to pre and post-care:

Pre Care

  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Minimize sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before the peel. Use sunscreen with high SPF if you have to be outside.

  • Stop Using Certain Products: Discontinue use of retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and any other strong exfoliants about a week before the peel.

  • Hydrate Your Skin: Keep your skin well-moisturized to help it recover better.

Post Care

  • Do not put anything on the skin until you wash off your peel after 4-6 hours.

  • It's normal to feel mild stinging sensation for half hour. Leave the peel on for a minimum of 4 hours before you wash it off with gentle cleanser. However, if you feel extra sensitivity, you may contact us immediately for further instruction.

  • Wear loose clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid irritation on the treated area.

  • Avoid heat and sweating: Avoid heat and excessive sweating (24–48 hours), including hot showers, saunas, and intense exercise.

  • Avoid picking, rubbing or have extra friction on the skin as it is ideal to allow the skin rest until it's fully recovered or it can potentially increase chance of hyperpigmentation.

  • You may experience some dryness on the skin for the first few days, apply gentle and non-comedogenic moisturizers on clean skin 2-3 times a day for 5-7 days until flaking has resolved.

  • Keep the skin hydrated, it's recommended to drink a plenty of water daily and incorporate hydrating skin products for the first week starting from the second night.

  • Avoiding direct sunlight and making sure you wear sunscreen whenever you go outside

  • Avoid skin irritants for 7 days after treatment, i.e. Products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, vitamin C/ascorbic acid, astringents, etc.

  • Do not use anything that irritate the skin like waxing, depilatories, a washcloth, or Clarisonic brush for one week.

  • Stay as cool as possible, avoid hot shower, saunas, or other activities that cause excessive perspiration. Overheating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.

  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.

  • If you notice any side effects that seem abnormal or are not listed here, please contact us immediately.
